The Tutor – Mr Bernard Willington
Qualifying as a design engineer Bernard became involved in managing the transfer of industrial technology to overseas clients including to South America and Africa.
In 1984, on his return from a 2-year project in Africa, Bernard became a full-time painter. He set up his own fine art publishing company and following a series of International Invitational Exhibitions in America he established his own studio in the USA. Over the same period, he worked with a Californian fine art publisher gaining coast to coast recognition for his sporting paintings alongside others commissioned for product licensing. While in America Bernard ran painting courses and gave many demonstrations to art groups in Georgia and South Carolina. He won ‘’Best International Artist’’ award at an International Golf Art exhibition held in North Carolina.
On his return to Wiltshire Bernard’s designs for illustrated maps applied to soft cushions won a Design of the Year award from the Giftware Association at the Spring Gift fair in Birmingham. This led to an invitation from The Royal Horticultural Society, Wisley to design a cushion for the Chelsea Flower Show. The RHS ran the design at the show for two years.
Bernard continues teaching, running a weekly painting class for the Lawrence Art Society in Devizes. He also gives painting demonstrations to various painting groups in Wiltshire.’’
